2004 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES SHORT FILM LINEUP

The 2004 Sundance Film Festival programmers have selected 86 short films, including 53 American and 33 international films, from a total of 3,389 submissions (2,532 American and 857 international), to participate in this years Festival. Narrative and documentary short films will be presented before a feature-length film, while others will be seen as part of a Short Film Program, in the Frontier category, and in the Native Forum. This year, the Festival is introducing Jury Prize in International Short Filmmaking. International short films under 30 minutes in length are eligible for the prize. American short films of less than 30 minutes in length are eligible for the Jury Prize in American Short Filmmaking. The winners of these awards are chosen by the Short Film Jury based on outstanding achievement and merit.
As a whole, the Festivals commitment to international films it continuing to evolve and expand, and were thrilled to introduce the Jury Prize in International Short Filmmaking for the first time, said Trevor Groth, Senior Programmer, Sundance Film Festival. This year, a staggering number of short films from all over the world were submitted indicating that the short form is gaining recognition and momentum.

Founded by Robert Redford in 1981, Sundance Institute is dedicated to the development of artists of independent vision and the exhibition of their new work. Since its inception, the Institute has grown into an internationally recognized resource for filmmakers and other artists. Sundance Institute conducts national and international labs for filmmakers, screenwriters, composers, writers, and theatre artists. The annual Sundance Film Festival, a major program of Sundance Institute, is held each January and is considered the premier showcase for American and international independent film.
