Sony Pictures Classics Acquires the Czech film ³Zelary²
for North American Markets

New York, January 22 Sony Pictures Classics today announced the acquisition of North American rights to Ondrej Trojan¹s ³Zelary,² which is the Czech entry for Best Foreign Language Film.

Set against the backdrop of Nazi occupation in the Czechoslovakia during World War II, ³Zelary² is the story of a unique love brought together by two clashing cultures a free-spirited man of the mountains and a scholarly nurse devoted to the resistance. After he is brought into her hospital with fatal injuries, she saves his life by sacrificing part of her own. Set on the very edge of civilization, ³Zelary² is a love story born of the common will to survive.

³ŒZelary¹ is both a great critical and commercial success in the Czech Republic,² says Neil Friedman, president, Menemsha Films. ³Menemsha will now begin to introduce "Zelary" to cinemagoers all over the world outside the Czech Republic. With our international debut of the film, we are absolutely in the best hands by being with Sony Pictures Classics.²

³We are pleased to renew our relationship with Menemsha Entertainment, where we have had such domestic theatrical success in the past with ŒColor of Paradise,¹ ŒSon of the Bride¹ and ŒDivided We Fall,¹ states Sony Pictures Classics. ³ŒZelary¹ is a fine epic historical drama that is simply not made anymore and we are pleased to work again with Ondrej Trojan.²

³Zelary² stars Aña Geislerová and György Cserhalmi, and is directed by Ondrej Trojan, produced by Trojan and Helena Uldrichová, executive produced by Milan Kuchynka, written by Petr Jarchovsky based on the novella by Kveta Legátová, with cinematography by Asen Sopov, sound by Jiri Klenka, edited by Vladimír Barák and music by Petr Ostrouchov.

The deal was negotiated by Neil Friedman, president of Menemsha Entertainment.
